Our successes and failures come and go—they neither define us nor do they determine our worthiness.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the act of being intentionally aware of the present moment and observing our thoughts, emotions and physical sensations without any judgement.

Mindfulness practice is the profound experience of cultivating curiosity and exploring how we habitually respond to everyday challenges in life.

Sec2-QuoteSymbol

Thich Nhat Hanh

Mindfulness is what brings us back in touch with what’s happening in the present moment in our body, in our feelings, in our thinking, and also in our environment.

Compassion

Compassion is the feeling that arises while recognizing and empathizing with the pain of another person, along with the wish and effort to alleviate suffering.

Sec2-QuoteSymbol

Dalai Lama

The wish that all sentient beings may be free from suffering.

Self-Compassion

Self-Compassion is the act of being kind to oneself in the midst of suffering. Simply put it is compassion directed toward oneself.

Self-Compassion practice is the profound experience of actively comforting, protecting and supporting ourselves when we’re in pain, by using resources within, recalibrating our default mode.

Sec2-QuoteSymbol

Pema Chödrön

… we can still be crazy after all these years. We can still be angry after all these years. We can still be timid or jealous or full of feelings of unworthiness. The point is … not to try to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already.

Wondering how do these practices work?

Fully Present

When the mind runs on autopilot, we get stuck in embedded thought patterns that hinder us from creating new opportunities for change in life. When we learn to wholly connect with the present moment non-judgmentally, we unshackle ourselves from being burdened by the regrets of the past and the worries of the future.

Spatious Awareness

In mindfulness sessions, we try to focus our awareness on our present-moment experience - it might be our flow of our thoughts, the breath, the sounds around us or the physical sensations happening in different parts of the body. By allowing our attention to wander with grace, we gradually learn what it dwells upon the most. There is a famous saying - “whatever we rest our attention on grows”. We can then use our faculties to direct our attention to what matters the most.

Research

Thanks to huge leaps in neurosciences, we now know that every emotion has a specific neural network associated with it. When we are not mindful, we habitually react to difficult situations in the same manner, feel the same emotions and trigger the same neural networks to fire up in the brain. If not consciously intervened with, these networks get strengthened over time and become harder to avoid. However, there is sufficient research to prove the neuroplasticity of our brains. Through consistently practicing mindfulness and relaxing our nervous system, we can activate dormant neural pathways in the brain and adopt fresh ways of thinking, doing and being.

Mindfulness

To have a compassionate response, we need to be aware, turn towards and be with our emotional discomfort, hence Mindfulness is a prerequisite and foundation for self-compassion practice.
Mindfulness is implicit in Self-Compassion practice, that dismantles the self into moment-to-moment experience, while Compassion melts the sense of separate self by generating warmth and connection. Mindfulness is loving awareness of experience – calming and Self-Compassion is the loving awareness of the experiencer – warming up.

Loving-Kindness

Loving-Kindness guided exercises help us to cultivate good intentions that develop into positive internal conversations and good moods. These exercises enable us to bring about calming aspects within us through affiliation- building a practice of good will and compassion.

These practices then becoming a foundation towards happiness for ourselves and as well for the people around us either at home, at work or in our society

Common Humanity

MSC practice not only develops in us the attributes of nurturing and reassuring ourselves but also protecting, providing and motivating ourselves. Gently leading the shame and isolation when we struggle or fail, often feeling that something has gone wrong, into seeing our imperfections as part of the larger human experience, recognizing that everyone suffers.

This not only allows us feeling Inclusive by Connecting or Embracing, but also get more support Reaching out when needed.

Research

Mindful Self-Compassion practice is powerfully linked to wellbeing with the impressive and rapidly expanding body of research on its benefits. MSC is strongly associated to more positive states like happiness, life satisfaction, optimism and linked to better physical health.

Research has shown that by wrapping pain in the warm embrace of self-compassion, alleviates negative states while positive states are generated. Sustaining lasting changes especially better able to cope with depression, anxiety, stress and emotional avoidance. Engaging in healthier behaviors like with eating well and exercise. And proven increasingly supportive in interpersonal relationships especially care-giving roles.
